What's new or updated on Alwanza?
I recoded the "you are here" pop-up on my homepage so that no matter what changes I make to my homepage, the pop-up will always match, align, and be readable.

I keep thinking about removing the flaming bowl.  For one thing, it might scare off potential employers (next to go will be my color schemes, and my content, until I've dumbed everything down enough so that it will be bland and characterless...), and because I didn't do the artwork myself.  I am trying to make my Web site "all mine".  The backgrounds are "all mine" (like I said, they probably scare potential employers off - what - she has purple, orange, green, yellow and red all on her homepage?)

I'm thinking of creating a slow cuneiform animation.  I already made one quarter of the necessary slides in PhotoShop.  I need to get my own copy of Fireworks to complete the job.  At some point down the road, I could convert it into Flash.
What hi-tech projects am I working on?
I've been reading my Java textbook for school and reading about firewalls for my Apache server.  I have a pretty good system, I just want to make sure I haven't left any gaping holes before I "go live".

I redesigned my business cards and I'm taking them to get a quote today.  I want to be able to hand out business cards to people who might be able to help me network for finding jobs.
What else is going on in my life?
I still need to line up some speakers and install parties for Seattle Linux Chix and advertise them.

I'm still looking for employment.

I celebrated my birthday over this last weekend.  I bought my husband dress pants and a sports jacket.  I bought myself some interview clothes.  We went to (too many - our quota for the next 3 months) restaurants over the weekend.  We took a road trip to Bellingham and went down some back roads in the country and saw some birds (see Nature below).

I attended the SPUG party at Colin Meyer's house.  I had a lot of anxiety about attending but enjoyed myself once I got there.  I met a very interesting women (wife of one of the SPUGsters, a non-programmer) named Vivi.  Mostly, Vivi kept me talking about myself, but I did find out what she does for a living, and some of her more interesting hobbies (she juggles), where she grew up (Florida), and that she reads hip "classic" novels and knows way more than I would expect a pretty young Asian woman to know about traditionally "white people's" occult practices.  Maybe it is because she works with troubled youth?  Or maybe just because she likes reading Burrows.

She and I both stay in Seattle for the culture, and somehow I think when she says that, it means exactly the same thing as when I say it.  I like the mix of people and blend of international cultures here.  I like that we care about the environment and that we tend to register as independents but vote to the left.

I finally got to talk with Colin a little about mushrooms.  I'm thinking of attending the next monthly meeting of the Puget Sound Mycological Society.
Any nature observances of interest?
I haven't seen the hummingbird in about two weeks.

When Tom and I took our road trip to Bellingham, we saw lots of Snow Geese, a loon (I think it may have been a red-necked, just starting to get mating plummage), a Stellars jay, many hawks, blue herons, golden eyes:  both Barrows and common, the usual cormorants and grebes.

The weather has been Spring-like and I'm thinking we might have another snowless Winter.  I would like to see snow, but I can't complain about not having ice on the street.  If this weather keeps up, it is going to be too late for me to prune my trees!  I should have done it back in November!
