What's new or updated on Alwanza?
I've applied the February colors. Tom picked them out and then after I had the page coded he teased me about how "girly" they are. I'm wondering if he deliberately picked these so he could tease me. I'm thinking that I'll change them in 2 weeks.
My calendar link doesn't link to anything anymore. That's because although the link was dynamically generated by Javascript; the pages themselves weren't. I already wrote the code in Perl to generate the pages but I haven't implemented it on my site yet. I'll try to get to that today.
What hi-tech projects am I working on?
I was given a big fish to fry last week. I've had other nibbles that haven't worked out to their potential in the past, but this one actually might. It is a piece of freelance work and it will take up my time for a while. I won't be able to bill for it until it is completed, which may take a month or two. I'll do excellent work and be paid my usual rate (a bargain) but at the end I'll have a product that I'll be able to mass remarket at an even more affordable price to other small businesses. My entrepreneurial dream.
I need to start doing some volunteer work for BFREE because I received 677 new photos last week. I'm thinking about implementing something like Joel's picture database, but that is a project for when I have some free time on my hands.
What else is going on in my life?
I still need to line up some speakers and install parties for Seattle Linux Chix and advertise them.
I'm still looking for employment. Although at least for the moment I'm not entirely panicked about my Unemployment benefits running out in March. I think freelancing might work out for me.
Any nature observances of interest?
On February 1st I saw flocks of robins (kind of unusual for robins to flock). I haven't seen the hummingbird who used to perch in my vine maple since January 10th, but it hasn't been cold enough to make me think he suffered from frost. Yesterday I saw 2 Anna's hummingbirds feeding out of the camellia bushes at the middle school 2 blocks away. Camellias must be what keeps hummingbirds alive in the winter here.
The bulbs aren't just leafing in my neighborhood, they're budding! I've already watched the ducks do the neck-bobbing thing. Winter might be over. We don't seem to have much of a snow-cap on the mountains at all, which means we could have a drought this year. That's what happens when all the trees get cut down in the rainforest.
