What's the Big News?
I hit a milestone I wanted to record, or rather a quarter milestone. I am now running the entire stretch of Interurban Trail on my daily lunch "walk". And I am excercising at the middle setting on my Powerrider for 20 to 25 minutes daily. I had to slow down for a few days while I was getting rid of a cough. I suspect I brought some minor chronic ailment into the acute phase so I could heal from it. I feel like I'm breathing more deeply these days.
The slogan for the month is "the heart is a muscle".
I thought it might be appropriate for Valentine's day. In keeping with my theme of what I want to do when I turn 50, I'm planning to send out lots of Valentine's greetings this year, maybe half a dozen or so. For those of you who don't know how funny that is, I took another quick Meyers-Briggs test a couple of days ago. On the introvert-extrovert scale, I scored a 1 out of a possible 100 on the extrovert side. That puts me squarely in the middle. Tom is 100 percent introvert (no kidding).
What's new or updated on Alwanza?
Nothing new live since last week. I discovered a page with more than half of its links needing updates (I've got to get around to fixing those some time) and I've been working on some new glitz for my homepage that may or may not pan out; isn't live yet. We'll see.
What hi-tech projects am I working on?
I successfully installed and configured Sendmail on the new server at work. This is a big deal. I have now earned my "I am truely a geek" badge. There is SO much to learn about Linux. I am only an hag...
The next Seattle Linux Chix meeting I'll be demonstrating and talking about Webmin (no, I didn't use Webmin to set up Sendmail - I won my geek badge for real - but it is possible to do so).
What else is going on in my life?
Tom has been communiting to work by bicycle for many weeks now (putting my tiny little efforts at better physical fitness to shame). That is approximately 30 miles round trip. Ha ha ha - he's 48 years old, he's not riding a skinny-tire bike and some salesman in a bike store called him a "casual" rider. I'd say a 30 mile bike commute is not "casual", but no, his aim isn't to race.
Anyway, I'm definitely getting some of the secondary benefits to Tom's riding. I guess that makes up for the extra worry.
Any nature observances of interest?
We are back in a cold-snap. The frost is on the ground again. I haven't seen my hummingbirds (not much, one sighting) in weeks and I hope that's just because they found other good sources of food.
We have a drummer, though. It is very early, but a flicker is drumming his little heart out on our eaves in search of a mate. All the bird mating behavior is being temporally confused this year.
