What's the Big News?
The big news is that on February 20th, I had my hair cut, about 3.5 years worth.  I intended to get it colored too, but that turned out to be a bust and I'm still looking for a place to do it.  Turns out that in Kirkland (remember Kirkland?  that place where I walk down the street and see multiple Paris Hilton and Britney Spears look-alikes and where women dress behind curtains in the gym) a significant number of hair salons have are open till about 6:00pm on weekdays, have minimal Saturday hours and no Sunday hours.  I think they must be targeting the country club crowd.

Anyway, I made a Saturday appointment at one of those, Viridis, mostly because I liked what I read on their web site.  I get in there and start to react to their cheap chemical scented candles (all over the shop) which to me are a worse smell than the hair preparations.  My hair dresser is late, asks for "Marilyn" instead of "Meryll", is wearing longish blunt press-on nails (not clean short natural nails which I prefer on anyone touching me) which I believe reduce tactile input, and not a speck of natural fiber on her:  she is dressed all in nylon and polyester.  Plus, her own hairdo is obvious (which is forgivable in someone who works in a salon), hair-spray stiff (which is not forgivable), and over-dyed.  I tell her I think we have a mismatch and walk out.

Tom and I are working hard to get our finances organized.  We've decided that we are spending too much time ineffeciently paying bills and need a better system for keeping track and paying.  We've been spending some time on devising and preparing a better system.

Futon Factory delivered a better bed to replace the one we rejected.  We are still waiting on the hot tub spa cover, but in the meantime, our customer rep at Apollo Spas gave us a good deal on an umbrella for the spa when it rains, so it is hard to complain.  Apparently the company has gone through a reorganization and this is some of the left over chaos from that.

At work, I'm also still waiting on the replacement server from Gateway.  And a top I purchased at the Flower and Garden show was delivered in the wrong color, so I'm waiting for an exchange.

I haven't been walking or running in a long time.  Now that my back is feeling better and the weather is improving, I hope to get back to that.

What's new or updated on Alwanza?
The March colors are new and this page.  I also created a code snippet page that explains how my visitor statistics page works.  And I created a new section, Only Rumors.  Tom calls it my "I told you so" page.

What hi-tech projects am I working on?
I'm waiting for the replacement server from Gateway.  It should arrive within a week or so.  Then I'll start installing RedHat 9.0 again.

I've decided I need to find work at a company more close to the cutting edge of technology.  I'm tired of working on Windows 98s, RedHat6.x, and 7.x servers, and spending all my time doing repetitive work.  I feel like my skills are starting to stagnate and I want more excitement.

I've been working on creating a DNS server at home, installing Tomcat on my Linux Server and I keep promising myself I'll fix Majordomo for SeattleLinuxChix.

What else is going on in my life?
February was a busy month.  There was the Flower and Garden Show, the Bicycle Show, and then Tom rode the Chilly Hilly.  I've been focusing on Tech.

Any nature observances of interest?
The male flickers have started to drum in search for mates.  The purple crocuses crowned and never fully opened because they came up so early.  The white ones are blooming now, and our first daffodil.  Just about everything is in bud:  the viburnum, the rhododendrons, the andromeda, the red flowering current, the daphne.  The tree peony is getting leaves again.  I've seen an occasional tree in white or pink flower.

A mated couple of varied thrush, and a robin have been eating our osmanthus berries.
