Current Projects
What's the Big News?
Last Thursday I underwent my third (and hopefully last) surgery. My left ankle is now in a cast and I am hopping about with the aid of a 4-wheeled walker with handbrakes and a basket. Dr. McInnes, who performed the surgery on my right ankle 6 years ago, was my surgeon for this one as well. I am hopeful that my recovery will restore pain-free flexibility to my ankle. Dr. McInnes is now working out of the Sports Medicine Clinic in the Northgate area. I tracked him down.
What's new or updated on Alwanza?
I have been creating scripts to administer my website and I've put them in a secured directory, requiring authentication. I have also (finally) upgraded my webserver! It is about time. I think it was still on RedHat 8.0 and now it is on CentOS 5.4 with aids that should make future upgrades easier. It wasn't very difficult to upgrade anyway; it took 2 days. I had to purchase and install additional RAM. I added another harddrive. After installing CentOS I needed to configure security, apache, and mysql, as well as recreate and repopulate files and databases.
What hi-tech projects am I working on?
I'm creating more scripts for Alwanza. I'm also taking the opportunity of my confinement to learn PHP in preparation for contract work on a small commercial website.
What else is going on in my life?
I'm still looking for work and hope to be employed soon.
Any nature observances of interest?
In one week the birds have half emptied my backyard seed feeder. It is wonderful to watch so many little birds flitting in the bushes in my shade garden.
The last two nights we had thundershowers. We have entered the cold and rainy season. I am glad to have a covered front and back porch from which to enjoy our temperate rain forest. At the moment nothing is blooming in the shade garden. There were no toadlilly flowers this year and I'm hoping they will return next year.
